First assembly prototype C-band accelerator

We have successfully completed the assembly of the first prototype C-band accelerator

Fabrication began with the manufacture of the individual cells and couplers, leaving a small oversize over the nominal dimensions.
This oversize served to have margin for finishing in case of misalignment due to the thermal stress relief treatment, which was performed by heating the copper to a temperature slightly lower than the annealing temperature, but sufficient to relax any internal stresses.
The finishes were performed with CNC machines and single-crystalline tools, managing to achieve very low degrees of roughness.
Once finishing was completed, the parts were thoroughly washed, assembled on granite benches to ensure concentric alignment, and then brazed in a vacuum furnace.
After brazing was completed, the vacuum seal was tested with very satisfactory results from the first test.

We are extremely proud to have made the first experimental model entirely in house
